Este tipo de vaso era característico del sur de Alemania y especialmente de Augsburgo a finales del siglo XVI. Su popularidad se debía en parte a que ofrecía una gran superficie para su decoración. En él se combinan motivos como cestas de frutas, pájaros y rostros de putti tomados de grabadores de Núremberg. No obstante, los fondos pintorescos enlazan con los célebres paisajes con animales de Peter Flötner. Por último, el guerrero que corona la pieza es típico de la orfebrería alemana de la segunda mitad del siglo XV. Esta pieza ingresó en 1966 en la colección Thyssen adquirida por el barón Hans Heinrich a Jacques Kugel en París.

Beakers of this kind were characteristic of southern Germany, especially late 16th-century Augsburg. Their popularity was partly due to their large decorative surface. This piece combines motifs such as baskets of fruits, birds, and faces of putti taken from Nuremberg engravers. The picturesque grounds, however, recall Peter Flötner’s famous landscapes with animals. Lastly, the warrior topping the beaker is typical of German goldsmiths of the second half of the fifteenth century. This piece entered the Thyssen collection in 1966 after Baron Hans Heinrich acquired it from Jacques Kugel in Paris.
