30th Anniversary
The Museum’s 30th anniversary provides the starting point for both reflecting on the future and remembering the past through discussions, thematic tours, gallery talks and competitions.
On 8 and 9 October 2022 the Museo Thyssen celebrated its first three decades of artistic activity by offering free entry and multiple activities.
In the 1990s museums ceased to be guardians of treasures, places where a collection is kept, and became something living. Today museums are not collections of objects, but programmes of events because there is something going on all the time and that something includes exhibitions, courses, conferences, workshops, visits and activities of all kinds.
Society is asking the museum to be an agent of social change and to look at issues such as sustainability, the energy problem or the impact our lives have on the ecology. The museum is a perfect setting to echo all these issues that people are concerned about.
