Manuel Rodríguez
Biography
Born in Úbeda, Jaén, is a multidisciplinary artist. He received his academic training in classical ballet, contemporary dance and the visual arts in his home town and in Madrid.
He began his career as a professional dancer in 2005, working with companies like La Veronal, James Thierrée (grandson of Charles Chaplin) and Provisional Danza. Since 2011 he has been a freelance creator, obtaining support from international institutions and platforms like Aerowaves, Acción Cultural Española, Barcelona Town Hall, Kyoto Art Center (Japan), Centro Coreográfico Canal, MACBA, Tanzhaus Zürich, Instituto Cervantes, Institut Ramon Llull, Sâlmon Barcelona Performing Arts Festival, Graner, and Elamor.
His creations have won awards at the Copenhagen International Choreography Competition, Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid, Certamen coreográfico MasDanza, Certamen Coreográfico Burgos - New York, ACT Festival, and the Gdansk International Solo Dance Contest in Poland. He has also been nominated on several occasions for the Catalan Critics Awards, the Butaca Theatre Awards of Catalonia and the Godot Awards.
Since 2011 he has added more than ten creations to his repertoire, which have been performed at multiple venues throughout Europe. He is currently taking the New Performative Practices master’s degree at SKH, Stockholm University of the Arts.
