This new course, organised in collaboration with Visit Flanders, analyses the life and oeuvre of painters active from the 15th to the 17th centuries in Flanders, one of the most prosperous regions of the time, focusing on works expressly conceived for the places where they are still to be seen today. Through five monographic sessions participants will have the opportunity to look closely at the figures of Jan van Eyck, Hans Memling, Joachim Patinir, Peter Paul Rubens and David Teniers II, artists also represented in the Thyssen collections who aroused enormous admiration in Europe for their taste for detail and realism made possible through an innovative use of oil painting.
