Nobility in art
In conjunction with the launch of the series Your Majesty and in collaboration with Prime Video, the museum is offering a unique, free guided tour that brings participants closer to the representation of women, monarchy and fashion throughout the history of art. Themes such as destiny and free will are present in this thematic route, inspired by the image of Princess Pilar of Spain, the star of the series now available on Prime Video; a woman who, rather than limiting herself to predefined paths, defines her own direction.
During these free guided tours participants will encounter a range of portraits of royal and court figures. Notable among them is a work by John Singer Sargent, the most famous society portraitist of the last third of the 19th century. Portrait of Millicent, Duchess of Sutherland (1904), depicts one of the most famous and progressive women in London society of the day.
This thematic route also explores trends in fashion of different periods, the importance of clothing in portraiture and the hidden messages behind it, as in the portrait of Princess Pilar used to promote the series, an image that challenges the traditional canons of royalty.
