This autumn Friends can participate in a private guided tour of the Museo Nacional del Prado and discover the B-side of the works on display in the exhibition Versos. While we habitually look at the front of paintings, this exhibition “turns them over” and focuses on their pictorial support, inviting us to discover the secrets hidden on the reverse.

One example is Portrait of Johann von Rückingen (?) by Wolfgang Beurer, a work from the Museo Thyssen’s permanent collection loaned to the exhibition. Depicted on its reverse is a fantastical figure bearing a coat of arms, an element that has allowed for an identification of the portrait’s sitter.
