The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza faces a new project with one of its most emblematic works, The Virgin of Humility, painted around 1433-1435 by the master painter Fra Giovanni da Fiesole, known as Fra Angelico.

Because of the interest that those projects create, the results will be exhibited in a special display in December 2022 in the permanent collection, room 11, during the year 2023. The area of restoration has started the complex process of the technical study that involves the identification of the materials that compose the work, through chemical analysis, and the use of technical imaging like radiography or infrared reflectography, which allows the work to be studied.

The research will provide insight into the painter's creative process and give the necessary information before undertaking the restoration with the utmost rigor and respect. The project has been selected within the Art Conservation Project, obtaining the support of Bank of America and receiving their help to carry out the technical study and restoration of the painting.

"At Bank of America we are convinced that Art is a vehicle of progress for society and, moreover, a bridge for understanding between different cultures. The artistic heritage of a country is also a treasure: an economic engine for its tourism sector, which we must preserve and protect. With this in mind, we have decided to sponsor the restoration of Fra Angelico's Madonna della Humilità as part of our important Art Conservation Project. This artwork is one of the most important works of the Renaissance and one of the great jewels of the Thyssen Collection, which, once restored, it will restore the work to its original splendor for the enjoyment of the visitors".

Joaquín Arenas, President of Bank of America Spain and Portugal.
