Environmental and sustainability policy

As a leading public museum, we have sought to meet our sustainability commitments as effectively as possible by configuring our many environmental initiatives within an ambitious, overarching environmental and sustainability policy designed to strengthen our commitment to the planet, while serving society and upholding the values of ethical governance.

Key features of our environmental and sustainability policy

  • Our ambitious, structured, crosscutting policy sets out well-defined commitments and processes, as well as measurable objectives and indicators across all areas related to environmental care.
  • It includes measures covering all aspects of sustainability: reducing emissions, carbon footprint, waste and the use of natural resources, circular economy, efficient reuse and recycling, responsible exhibitions, environmental awareness and education, and partnerships and stakeholder engagement.
  • We keep a keen eye on environmental best practices across the industry to ensure we remain at the forefront of sustainability measures adopted by leading museums.
  • We have launched a new section on our website focused on the environment, sustainability and the 2030 Agenda, including our environmental and sustainability policy and key initiatives in this field.
