The museum is hosting a conversation with Tania Safura Adam (journalist, curator and researcher), Elsa Casanova (artist) Sampé and Diego Blas (researcher in the Department of Physics at the UAB) on the historical intersections between science, culture and religion in concepts concerning the sky.

Coinciding with its retrospective devoted to the German artist Gabriele Münter, the museum is organising an audiovisual cycle with the aim of bringing viewers closer to other spheres of the painter's life. Over the course of six sessions, which include films and documentaries, audiences will become familiar with two facets of Münter, as an artist and a film enthusiast. 

Friends of the Museum can visit the gallery displaying the important frames from eleven works of art in the collection in a private guided tour led by Mar Borobia, curator of the exhibition and Chief Curator of Old Master Paintings at the museum. 

Through our guided tours on weekends and public holidays you can learn in detail about the life and work of the artists, their influences and motivations, and why they became icons of art.

TBA21–Academy and Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza present Organismo | Art in Applied Critical Ecologies, an experimental independent study program connecting research, theory, and speculation through a series of focused case studies—regenerative interventions that explore different forms of alliance. 

Saint Casilda (ca.1630-35) by Francisco de Zurbarán and The Virgin and Child with Saint Rose of Viterbo (ca. 1670) by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo are the subject of December’s edition of Focus on the Work, an in-person activity exclusively for Friends which allows participants to share impressions, thoughts and ideas on works in the collection.

Friends have the chance to visit the exhibition before it opens to the public in the company of a guest  and also to take part in one of the private guided tours scheduled for various dates and times following the inauguration.

The Fundación Cultura en Vena will be bringing together the cultural and health sectors at the museum with the aim of focusing on the connections between art and health. This is a new Study Day that also coincides with World Children's Day on 20 November. 

Organised to coincide with the presentation at the museum of the first retrospective in Spain devoted to the German artist Gabriele Münter, the Friends programme is offering an online course. It will aim to further knowledge of the painter and her key role, as a member of the NKVM and Blaue Reiter [Blue Rider] groups, in the creation and organisation of the first exhibitions of Expressionist painting in Munich. 

On weekends from November to February the museum is offering guided tours of the exhibition devoted to Gabriele Münter (1877-1962), one of the founders of Der Blaue Reiter [The Blue Rider], the famous Expressionist artists’ group based in Munich.  

The third edition of the performance cycle Vision and presence, which aims to give visibility to women creators, features ten new performances specially created to be presented in different spaces in the museum over the course of 2024.

On the occasion of Gabriele Münter's first retrospective exhibition in Spain, the museum organizes a series of conferences in which a group of specialists analyze various aspects of his long and multifaceted career.

With this virtual guided tour you can travel through seven centuries of art history through fifteen masterpieces and delve deeper into our collection. Narrated by our curators, discover the little stories hidden in the paintings at any time and pause the guided tour whenever you want.

Art and wine go hand in hand in a unique experience that joins the Thyssen with the symbolic Mercado de San Miguel. An interesting way to explore gastronomic culture and art.

Take a closer look at the works in the collection from the point of view of the museum's restorers and you will learn about the treatments carried out on the paintings as well as some of the secrets and curiosities hidden in a selection of our Masterpieces.

In this new edition centred on winter we will be looking at this season in order to discover works in the museum that reflect nature and light at this time of the year, followed by a visit to the Royal Botanical Garden. 

Guided tours of the exhibition Tabita Rezaire. Calabash Nebula led by the artist and curator Raisa Maudit, on Saturday 2 November, and by the astrophysicist José Antonio Caballero on 14 December. Both will explore a particular subject relating to the themes addressed in the exhibition, from alternative spiritualities to astrophysical explorations and decolonial narratives.

Every year the Focus on the Collection programme offers Friends a guided tour of the Permanent Collection with the aim of offering detailed explanations of its contents. On this occasion the activity focuses on life at home as represented in paintings in the collection and invites participants to discover the way in which the spaces we call home have shaped our lives over the course of history.

The Young Friends LabThyssen programme has organised a series of guided tours of the museum’s collections which offer the new and different perspective introduced by the members of the panel of experts who collaborate on the design and promotion of this programme: Sara Rubayo, Maya Pixelskaya and Hugáceo Crujiente.
