Activities to accompany the exhibition "Beckmann. Exile Figures"

The museum organised a series of activities to accompany the exhibition Beckmann. Exile Figures in order to deepen the knowledge and appreciation of the artist and his works. The museum hosted a film-cycle that included important works from 1920s German cinema, as well as others set in Germany between the wars. The cycle was rounded off with a 2013 documentary about the life of the painter. All films were shown in their original language with subtitles.

In addition to the film-cycle, the museum hosted a two-day symposium to analyse various aspects of the painter's career from a more modern perspective. Beckmann is one of the most important painters of the 20^th century, although in Spain he is still a little-known figure. The talks hosted by six expert speakers helped enhance the reputation of the artist. The speakers were: Tomás Llorens, Curator of the exhibition; Stephan von Wiese, co-author of the catalogue of Max Beckmann's drawings; Ruth Perez-Chaves, an international museum professional; Barbara Stehle, Director of Art Intelligentsia; Didier Ottiger, Deputy Director of the MNAM Centre Pompidou, Paris; Sabine Rewald, Curator of The Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
