Amar Kanwar
In collaboration with TBA21, the Thyssen Museum has acquired two works by the Indian artist Amar Kanwar, who despite his multidisciplinary approach to his work, is first and foremost recognised as a documentarist. TBA21 is a foundation created by Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza promoting the creation of contemporary art related to the main challenges facing today’s global society today.
The two installations entitled Testimonios relámpago and El bosque soberano merge video projection with other mediums. The former causes the viewer to reflect upon the theme of gender violence and the personal as well as collective fight against it; the latter upon the damage industrial development inflicts on the environment and the indigenous way of life in certain regions of the world.
