Face to face with the portrait in the age of Rembrandt
Lecture
- 9 March 2020
In conjunction with the exhibition Rembrandt and the Portrait in Amsterdam, 1590-1670 the museum is organising a symposium that will analyse different themes arising from the exhibition, some of them considered of particular importance.
The talks to be given by leading experts in each field will focus on issues such as the attribution of some of Rembrandt’s portraits, his role as a portraitist, and recent research and discoveries relating to this period of art history and to the genre of portraiture. Other talks will focus on subjects such as group portraits, the fashion worn by the subjects of the paintings and the artist’s portrait prints.
