Celebration week: activities and free entry
The museum will be celebrating the week that marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza, specifically Tuesday 13 April 2021, with free entry to the permanent collection between the Monday and Sunday of that week. This also includes entry to the special display Treasures from the Thyssen-Bornemisza family Collection.
On 13 April itself the celebrations will be completed with eight mini-concerts in the museum’s Auditorium organised in collaboration with the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía.
Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza often observed that painting was his greatest passion. He was also, however, a devotee of music and attended concerts as often as possible, including the performance of Beethoven’s nine symphonies conducted by his friend Herbert von Karajan at the Royal Festival Hall in London in April 1961.
Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Handel, Bach and Bach’s sons Carl Philipp Emanuel and Johann Christian were the Baron’s favourite composers, as he recorded in his memoirs. For this reason, the programme for the present occasion comprises works by Bach, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. The concert will be repeated in five sessions between 11 am and 6 pm, each lasting approximately 15 minutes.
Due to current health precautions, tickets to visit the museum and to attend the concerts must be booked in advance.
