The new edition of the programme Focus on the work will be casting an intimate, interactive gaze on The Death of Hyacinthus by Giambattista Tiepolo, one of the great Italian painters of the 18^th century. The subject of the canvas derives from an episode in Ovid’s Metamorphoses which narrates the fatal consequences of the love between the god Apollo and the mortal Hyacinthus. Tiepolo executed this commission during one of the finest and most fruitful periods of his career.

Mar Borobia, chief curator of Old Master Paintings at the museum, will be introducing this work in an activity exclusively for Friends with the aim of analysing aspects of the composition, figures, light, expressions and colours, in addition to Tiepolo’s particular and subtly ironic interpretation of this classical myth.
