As part of the upcoming exhibition Colonial Memory in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collections (25 June to 20 October 2024), the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza is pleased to present Clémentine Deliss's book: El museo metabólico, recently published in Spanish by Caniche, Madrid.

In this passionate account, the cultural historian and curator Clémentine Deliss mixes the autobiographical with rigorous and sharp theses that question hegemonic cultural discourses, in particular of ethnography. El museo metabólico tells the story of what happens when an attempt is made to transform one of these institutions -the Weltkulturen Museum in Frankfurt, of which Deliss was director- into a living organism where contemporary thinkers and artists can translate, reinterpret and bring new meanings to contested ethnographic collections.

The presentation will consist of a lecture by Clémentine Deliss and a conversation about her book with Juan Ángel López-Manzanares, curator of the museum and co-curator of the aforementioned exhibition.

Clémentine Deliss is Curator at Large at KANAL-Centre Pompidou in Brussels, and Director of the Metabolic Museum-University.
