Islands tells the story of Joshua, a shy Filipino immigrant approaching fifty who has always lived in the comfort of his parents' home. Now that they are old he asks God to find him a companion, terrified of being left alone when they pass away.

Premiered at SXSW 2021, this feature film, the first by Canadian director Martin Edralin, was nominated at the 10th edition of the Canadian Screen Awards in the categories of Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and the John Dunning Award for Best First Feature. In 2016, Edralin’s first short, Hole, won the award for best short film at the same competition, as well as the Grand Prix 2015 at the Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival and the jury prize at the Locarno Film Festival in 2014. Emma, his second short film, was included in the Top Ten Canadian Films list at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival and won First Prize at the 2017 Rhode Island International Film Festival
